STOP THE STADIUM
RESIDENTIAL RATEPAYERS
There is a simple, effective method of opposing the massive spend up on the Stadium project
This strategy has been based on advice from Otago University’s Dean of the Law Faculty – Mark Henaghan. It is a no risk, low cost means of protesting to the DCC.
ACTION YOU CAN TAKE
- The average increase in residential rates is $66 per year (a mythical figure from the DCC)
- To make Council take notice of your concerns simply withhold that $66
- If you pay quarterly this means you deduct $16.50 from each instalment
- Yes, this portion will attract the 10% annual penalty of $6.60*
- But we think that there is no cheaper or more effective way of delivering a serious message to Council
*Every quarter, Council will remind you of your shortfall in payment and you can safely ignore these until the end of the financial year (July 1st) after which you still have four months to stump up the $6.60. During this period Council will have to send you further written reminders.
As long as you pay within the four months of the final reminder, there will be no risk. By this action Council will be made continuously aware that opposition to the Stadium is widespread and deeply-felt.
We shouldn’t be compelled to pay for something we cannot afford!
